Earlier this year, it was reported that Phil Axtell had been dismissed from the hockey Huskies for "repeated violations of team policy".
Now, Heisenberg is reporting on his recruitment website that Axtell is transferring to - you guessed it - eNeMa U.
Phil wouldn't be eligible to play with the Mildkittens until Sept. 2008, but this is interesting gossip nonetheless.

That's northern michigan right?
Any Clue what the undisclosed team rules are?
Yeah, that's NMU.
It's still something of a rumor. Axtell was forced to sit out the WCHA playoffs this past season for bad grades, so the consensus is that he was dismissed for academic reasons. He'd probably have to spend his transfer year at Northern working on his grades.
I was never impressed with him (he's big, slow, and doesn't hit), but I guess Northern is desperate enough for firepower that they figured he was worth the gamble.
Will we ever see him in an NMU jersey? Perhaps, but I wouldn't count on him making a huge impact down there.
I could see TECH fans having fun with that one. I remember when the Gophers Basketball players got busted for cheating...
Oh, his first trip back to Houghton (assuming he can hack it in Marquette) wearing an NMU jersey will be memorable, I'm sure. Why, I can hear the "Husky Reject!" chants now.
Tim, your comment "I was never impressed with him (he's big, slow, and doesn't hit)" surprised me a bit. When he played for us here in Cedar Rapids (USHL) he was well-known for his HUGE hits. As a matter of fact, many of our opponents would skate away when Phil was seen gathering a head of steam for a check. He must have toned it down a bit in college. We'll have to see how he rebounds at NMU.
I completely agree... Rough Rider games were ALWAYS exciting to watch when Phil was on the ice!
